Javier Sapiña started his musical education in Cullera Sociedad Musical “Santa Cecilia”. He graduated in french horn at Valencia Conservatory “Joaquín Rodrigo” with Prof. J. Rosell and in double bass at Madrid Conservatory with E. Maravella where he won the “Honor Prize”. Then he completed his studies in Chicago with Jeff Bradetich and in Geneva with Franco Petracchi, among others.
Javier Sapiña is founder of Collegium Instrumentale Chamber Orchestra, Valencia Grup Instrumental (National Music Prize 2005), Vesperale Quartet and Zinger Septet. He has been co-principal in Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, principal in Valencia Symphonic Orchestra and has taught at Madrid Royal Music Conservatory and Valencia Conservatory “Joaquín Rodrigo”. Currently he is principal double bass in Valencia Orchestra and teaches at Aragon Music High Conservatory.
Moreover, he collaborates with several chamber music groups and orchestras, being conducted by Rafael Frubeck de Burgos, J. López Cobos, M. Gomez Martinez, Joseph Pons, M. Rostropovich, J. Menuhin, W. Weller, Leopold Hager, Zubin Mehta, Yaron Traub…
He has performed with soloists as Alfredo Kraus, Teresa Berganza, Placido Domingo, Salvatore Acardo, N. Chumachenco, Felix Ayo, G. Kremmer, M. Maisky and F. Petracchi.
Usually he gives music courses and prepares the section in youth orchestras as Spain National Youth Orchestra, Castilla León Youth Orchestra, Valencia Youth Orchestra or JM World Youth Orchestra.
Javier Sapiña has recorded many CDs and has performed as soloist in Collegium Instrumentale, CSMA Symphonic Wind Band or Valencia Orchestra.
He is also a keen diffuser of his maestro Franco Petracchi school and technique.
